The Detroit Zoo

A Sunday at the zoo. 2/3 children can feed giraffes. 1/3 children panic and let their Dad do the work. The names of the innocent and guilty will be protected, unless you ask.

Very, very neat polar exhibit. The photos of the polar bear standing on our heads didn't turn out well, but the video ends with the bear, um, well, when you gotta go, you gotta go.
Why are flamingos pink? From eating frozen strawberry lemonade, of course.

Vacation '09, Part 4

We're not done yet!! From "The Farm" we headed north to Skaneateles. Dinner at Rosalie's - gaberoni con orzo and banana pudding, a perfect summer day on the boat formerly known as "The East Lansing?", a pancake breakfast with Coleen and family, a thunderstorm interrupted day on the boat and a long drive home... Not enough time to do it all, but we are on part 4, for goodness sakes!

Vacation '09, Part 3

Now we've installed zip lines, headed off to Idlewild (Storybook forest hasn't changed in at least 35 years) and hung out with Ted, Clara and Julia. Did I mention that Charlie missed Idlewild because he threw up in his crib, oh about 3 times. That's a lot of sheet changing. The zip line had a few kinks to work out, like how to stop the children before they hit the tree at the end, but we're hoping PopPop Dick is working on those while we're away :-)

Vacation '09, Part II

Now, the Dickerts arrive from near and far. Gator rides, playground, s'mores, water balloons (shot from a 3 person slingshot), fireworks, berry picking, deer spotting, playgrounds, farmer's markets... Are you tired yet? We are.

Vacation '09, Part I

The Farm. Our first visitors are the Freeman boys/most-excellent book readers.
